The Third Grade enjoys many wonderful field trips. These
experiences provide the boys with a rich appreciation for the area in
which they live.

Reyes National Seashore |

The students embark on a ranger-led
tour of Kule Loklo (a Miwok Village) to discover how Native Americans
lived in a self-contained community. Other activities include
hiking the Earthquake Trail, eating picnic lunches, petting horses
at the Morgan Horse Ranch, and visiting the Bear Valley Visitor Center. |

Discovery Lab |

A variety of insects are brought into the classroom. The students
handle the insects and answer questions about insect body parts, habitats
and adaptations. Along with gaining an understanding of arthropod
characteristics, the students participate in a discussion about
environmental awareness and stewardship. |
| Mission
Dolores |

The students tour Mission San Francisco de Asis, learning about
the emergence, the construction, and the perseverance of the mission.
Students also visit the Presidio to see part of the original Presidio
and to learn about the connection between the missions and the
presidios. |
| Aquarium

The students explore the aquarium, learning
about a variety of fish from knowledgeable docents. |

Reptiles and Amphibians are brought into the
classroom. The students learn about the characteristics, adaptations,
and habitats of the animals through observation, handling, and questions. |
Coyote
Point Museum |

The students take a marsh muck tour in which
they explore the marsh through a hands-on approach. During low
tide, they observe the animals that live in the marsh, learning about
what kinds of adaptations animals need in order to survive in their
habitat. |
| Guide
Dogs for the Blind |

While studying mammals, we tour the Guide Dogs
For the Blind Foundation. The students learn the history and
the purpose of the program. |
Natural
History
of the Presidio |
 |
The students will take a guided tour of several habitats within
the Presidio. Emphasis is on native plants and animals, along with
building an understanding of what comprises an ecosystem. After the
nature walk, students will participate in an environmental restoration
project as a component of the community service program. |
| Columbia
State Historical Park (Overnight) |
 |
The students and teachers will
camp overnight in the Gold country. Emphasis is on experiencing life
as a gold miner and the spirit of cooperation. Students will pan for
gold, ride a stagecoach, watch blacksmithing, tour a reconstructed
Gold Town as well as set up their camp and cook. |
