American History for the seventh grade is a survey course emphasizing important themes:

  • Colonial experience
  • Revolution
  • Government: Confederation, Constitution
  • Maritime Trade
  • Westward Expansion
  • Civil War
  • Big Business
  • World War I
  • Depression
  • World War II
  • Overseas Conflicts
  • Civil Rights

The course is taught with the use of a textbook, American Journey (Glencoe), and three ebooks: Greece/Rome (Warner), Europe (Warner) and America, (Warner). In the fall, students write a history term paper, most often on their family history; in the spring, they take part in the Congressional Game.

The Congressional Game is a simulation of the United States Congress in which states (three players) introduce bills for consideration and adoption. Students use Internet and library sources for the research involved.
