Welcome to Fifth Grade Humanities!

2009-2010

Our Goals:
  • Explore the ancient civilizations and legacies of Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, Persia, and Greece
  • Strengthen our comprehension strategies
  • Read different genres to develop an appreciation for a variety of literature
  • Write about and connect to what we learn, think, and feel
  • Incorporate sound ideas, good organization, individual voice, powerful words, smooth fluency, correct conventions, and clear presentation into our writing

The fifth grade humanities curriculum integrates the studies of history, literature, and writing. Comprehension instruction is based on non-fiction and fiction texts. There is also specific instruction in spelling, grammar, organizational skills, and library and internet research.

Your Responsibilities as a Student:

  • Do your best and learn from your mistakes.
  • Be your own advocate.  Ask questions if you do not understand something.
  • Come to class on time, prepared, and with a positive attitude.
  • Record your assignments in your Homework Assignment Book daily. The homework is also available on the Town School Web Page at Humanities 5 Homework, but you must pay attention to updates in class.

Our Responsibilities as Teachers:
As your teachers we are here to help you learn, and we strive to make humanities class challenging and fun. We will do our best to be fair and answer your questions.
