¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!
Course Description: This class meets four times a week and uses the textbook, workbook and video series, En Español, level one. Games, songs, videos, computer programs and movies are used to enrich the curriculum. The class is conducted in Spanish and the students are expected to speak in Spanish, participate in all class activities and complete the daily homework.
Oral fluency is emphasized and reinforced by reading and writing. Vocabulary, grammatical structures and cultural aspects are also studied.
Extra Help: Extra help is provided after school on
Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Grading System: Based on class participation and class work, tests, quizzes, homework and projects.
Participation and class work 40%
Participation is being attentive in class, listening to the teacher and classmates as well as taking part in the class in a constructive manner.
Quizzes/Tests 30%
Quizzes and tests are usually given on Fridays. Spelling, grammar, vocabulary, reading and listening comprehension are tested. The Thursday before a quiz is a review class.
Homework 30%
Homework is given each class period and must be turned in the following class period. Students can find the two-week assignment sheets on the Web page.
Most importantly: Practice every chance you get! Watch TV in Spanish, listen to Spanish radio stations, check out Spanish sites on the internet, even talk to yourself in Spanish and have fun! Enjoy the cultural richness of our city and check out events in the Hispanic community.
