Grading
System:
Participation
and class work
40%
Participation is being respectful, being attentive in class, listening to
the teacher and classmates as well as taking part in the class in a
constructive manner. During pair work or small group work participation is
staying on task and speaking only in Spanish. Participation also includes
being prepared for class with homework, binder, paper, workbook, and a
pencil. There are additional copies of the text book kept in the Spanish
classroom for student use during class. Therefore, students are encouraged
to save room in their backpacks and leave their copy of the book at home.
Quizzes/ Tests/ Projects
30%
Quizzes and tests are given on Thursdays. Spelling, grammar, vocabulary,
reading and listening comprehension are tested. Some quizzes will be
unannounced. Project grades will be weighted as two quiz/test grades.
Project expectations vary and will be explained in detail when assigned.
Homework 30%
Homework is given each class period and must be turned at the beginning of
the following class period, unless otherwise specified. Exceptions will be made for excused absences.
Homework that is late one day receives a 15% reduction in credit.
Homework that is late by two days receives an additional 10% reduction in
credit. Students can
find one-week assignment sheets on the Web page. Homework is graded using
the check plus/minus system. A check plus is excellent, a check is good,
and a check minus is satisfactory. Students may be required to re-do
unsatisfactory homework.
Most importantly:
Practice every chance you get! Watch TV in Spanish, listen
to Spanish radio stations, check out Spanish sites on the internet and try
thinking in Spanish and have fun! Enjoy the cultural richness of our city
and check out events in the Hispanic community.
