Welcome to 7th Grade Science!!!!

INTRODUCTION:

The seventh grade science program at Town provides students with an introduction to chemistry and geology.  In the first half of the course we will be focusing on the geologic features of our planet and the processes that form and change them. We take a special interest in studying the geology of California.  Students learn to see the history of Earth in the context of geologic time, see how the Earth has changed by studying the theory of continental drift and plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes, by learning about the mechanisms behind those changes. During the second half of the year, we will learn about the nature of chemistry, elements, compounds, forensics, writing chemical formulas, as well as, study chemical reactions.  We hope that this year will be interesting, educational, and fun for the students.

YEAR-LONG CONTENT AREAS:

Interior of the Earth Study of Matter

CLASSROOM STANDARDS:

1.         Be respectful.  Avoid talking while the teacher speaks or while other students answer a question. Have common sense and courtesy.

2.         Be in class on time.  If you are more than 5 min. late, you must have an excused note from a teacher/administrator or you will receive as strike for tardiness.

3.         Be ready to work.  This means that you are in your seat when I hit my bell and gong, you have your materials ready to work, and your homework is ready to be turned in.

4.         Be cooperative.  Your participation in group activities and discussion is an important part of your grade.  You will learn more and enjoy the learning process by participating and being cooperative.

5.         Be responsible.  This means that you take responsibility for getting notes and completing assignments for any days you are absent.  You should also clear absences within two days at the attendance office.  If you know you are going to be absent ahead of time, you should let me know so that you can keep up with your work while you are away.

6          Be Safe:  Remember you are in a room where everyone does labs.  There are potentially dangerous chemicals and microbes in class.  Follow your teacher’s instructions.

*These guidelines are to be followed every day, especially the days when there is a guest speaker or a substitute teacher.

MATERIALS:  You will need to have the following materials with you in class EACH DAY:

1.   Pencil / Pen

2.   Laptop (when requested)

3.   Science notebook

(You must create a table of contents for your science notebooks to keep track of your daily notes. Write numbers on your pages so that your table of contents will reflect the proper pages. This will make finding the information you need much easier.)
