Welcome to the Upper School at Town, where boys come first. For us, that means that on the third day of school all students choose Homeroom Presidents and Vice-Presidents to serve as their representatives on the Student Council. Dodgeball games, Free Dress days, and the Student Fair are all Council sponsored events that express the joy of a boys' school. By the third week of September, 8th graders culminate a unit that integrates art, English, science, and library research as they head off on a week long adventure to Yosemite. In mid-November, the 5th graders receive their own laptops as part of our pioneering Laptop Learning Program. 7th graders are working on our food drives as part of their required community service, while 6th graders maintain our weekly recycling program. In February, the Student Council will be busily preparing for the Student Fair, which last year raised $5000 for Hamilton Center for Children & Families.   By April, the 6th graders will have had the opportunity to play for a Town interscholastic sports team during the fall, winter, and spring. At Town, there is a team for all 6th through 8th grade boys who would like to participate in athletics. In May we celebrate our creativity at the Festival of Arts, where art work lines the walls and hangs from the ceiling, the Handbell Choir plays, and portions of dramatic productions are performed in the theater. And finally, we say goodbye to our 8th graders in June as new 6th and 7th graders take over as Student Council Vice-President and President.

Where boys come first, learning is prized, and love of school is essential....

In the Upper School, we foster open and active partnerships between teachers and parents - both with respect to individual student growth as well as community activities like the Student Fair and community service programs. Our faculty, through continuous professional development and collaboration, strives to create a supportive and caring network in which to challenge our boys.

Faculty members serve as guides for our students during class, in small discussion groups, or on the field. Their dedication and caring to the well-being of each boy - the whole boy - help us create a community where learning is prized and love of school is essential.

Welcome to the Upper School. I hope you find our virtual world as exciting as the living one. For an overview of our curriculum, check out the Curriculum Overview page. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
