We at Town School believe physical development directly correlates
with intellectual development. Physical education and athletics
are important elements of the curriculum not only because a sound
physical condition is necessary for emotional and academic well
being, but also because it encourages each boy to explore all aspects
of the human experience. Town School provides a program for every
boy that supports these beliefs through competitive, educational
and recreational programming. Our boys have daily opportunities
to participate and challenge themselves in developmentally appropriate
activities. These opportunities include daily physical education
classes and recess for all students. Students in grades 6 – 8 (upper school) are strongly
encouraged to participate in our Interscholastic
Athletic Program. Click here to read about our lower school sports philosophy.
Physical Education
The objectives of our physical education program are many: to enhance
self – esteem, develop physical fitness and proper nutritional
habits, and develop athletic skills emphasizing cooperation, teamwork
and sportsmanship. Our K – 4 physical education program (lower
school) focuses on movement education; students explore various
ways to control how they move while learning specific motor skills.
In our 5-8 physical education program (upper school), boys participate
in a core curriculum program designed to develop personal fitness,
nutritional habits, individual skills and team concepts that are
implemented during game play.

Track Meet
The spirit of the Track Meet is to celebrate individual
athletic achievement for all. In doing so, we expect everyone to
support each other in a positive manner while practicing good sportsmanship.
