Alphabet Book Biographies
Follow the directions on this page carefully in order to make you pages for the 4th grade alphabet biographies. This is a complicated, multi-step project, so work hard on reading these instructions carefully! |
Part One Go to World Book Online's biography center. Choose any biography that begins with your assigned letter.
Part Two Skim, scan, and then read the biography you have chosen. -Read the first sentence of each paragraph! -Read the last sentence of each paragraph! -Then go back and read the whole article, from beginning to end!
Part Three Open up a Microsoft Word document. Save it in your folder on Community, with the filename biography. What is the single most important thing people should know about the person you have researched? Answer this question with ONE SENTENCE. Type your answer in a font that is about this size.
Now type out (in a font about this size) TEN keywords related to your person. Be sure to choose IMPORTANT keywords, and be sure that you can explain to readers why you have chosen these keywords and what they mean. Copy and paste the citation information for the article. Find a World Book picture or a Google Images picture of your person. Copy and paste it into your Word document. Once you have gotten a teacher's OK, you should print out your Word document to the Library printer. Don't forget to save your Word document!
Part Four Now go to Wordle. Use your biography keywords to create a Wordle for your biography collage. Remember, you can copy and paste from your Word Document to save time. If you have a 2-word keyword (For example, "Town School,") put a ~ symbol between the words, so that Wordle knows to keep them together. (For example, you'd type in "Town~School") Play around with the font, layout, color, etc. until you are happy with what you see. Then print to the color printer.
