Your assignment: Plan a trip to Africa and create a Zoho notebook
explaining your itinerary.
The purposes of this assignment are:

to explore online travel and geography resources
-
to make judgments about what kinds of travel websites are reliable and which
are not (remember our evaluating websites quiz?)
-
to use travel guides to learn about different tourist attractions and create
a travel budget

Trip Requirements:
1) Do not exceed your budget of $3,500. This budget must cover:
-
airfare to Africa
-
transportation within Africa
-
food and lodging
-
entrance fees to museums, wildlife reserves, or other tourist attractions
-
any vaccines or medications you will need to get before departure
(estimate $75 per vaccine and $10 per medication). You do NOT have
to get any "routine" vaccinations, like MMR or DPT.
2) Your trip must include at least THREE countries and last
between
TWO and SIX weeks.

Notebook Requirements
Your notebook should explain:

how you will spend your money
-
what you plan on seeing
-
where you will stay and what kinds of food you will eat
-
how you will get from place to place
You may organize your notebook in any way you like, and you are free to embed
photos, maps, videos, music, graphs, or anything else that you think is relevant
and interesting. You will present your trip notebook to the class at the
end of the project. We'll talk about the possibility of having a
mini-party to celebrate everyone's presentations.

Some resources you may find
useful include:

Books about different African countries and their art,
architecture, cities, wildlife, etc. (search the
library catalog)

Travel guide websites, such as
Lonely
Planet and
BootsnAll.
These sites should give you a general idea of how much you will need to
spend on food, what kinds of local transportation are available, and what
kinds of sights you can expect to see in different African countries.

Railserve, for information on taking trains around Africa. You
will need to look at individual country's transit agency webpages.

About Zoho
Zoho Notebook is a powerful and convenient way to organize notes and
web clippings, as well as to create interesting presentations. It's also
very easy to use, and you should be able to figure it out on your own without
too much trouble.
In order to use Zoho Notebook, you will
need to use an account. When you do this please make sure that:
1) You use an e-mail address that you can check. It does not have to be
your Town address.
2) Your username is not your real name.
3) You give me your username and password. I need to be
able to access your Zoho accounts in order to check on the progress of this
project.
