All applicants must be college graduates and have some experience working with children, informal or volunteer work is welcomed. Applicants must be willing to commit to two full years at Town with a change in grade placement after the first year. The two-year commitment coincides with the school calendar, beginning in late August of the first year and ending in mid-June of the second year. The New Teacher Institute places resident teachers into self-contained classrooms for kindergarten through fourth grades. The art resident teacher works in ​both Lower School and Upper School,​ while science resident teachers teach in grades five through eight and humanities resident teachers teach in grades five and six. Resident teachers are paired with head teachers who serve as mentors.

Resident teacher positions are full-time. For 2018-19, the first year resident teacher salary is $41,000, and the second year resident teacher salary is $42,000.  All resident teachers receive full medical and dental benefits. Coaching and tutoring opportunities are available for supplemental income.

2. A complete application package includes: application form, resume, transcript(s), personal statement, and letters of reference. It is preferred that all materials are submitted as one package or as an email with attachments. However, letters of reference and/or transcripts may be submitted separately. 3. After the application materials have been reviewed, applicants who have been selected for an interview and tour of the school will be contacted by the director. Please note preferred dates of interview on your application, if you are planning a trip to the San Francisco Bay Area. Interviews are generally held late February through April.
