Student Life at Town

The sense of community at Town School is evident in all aspects of school life, from daily handshake greetings with the Head of School to our affinity spaces, athletics teams and after school programs. We seek to build strong connections within and across grades through a wide variety of formal and informal initiatives. 

Our "Families" program includes one or two faculty members and a boy from each grade; over the course of the student journey, boys grow up within their Town School Family, welcoming a new student each year. Family activities promote learning and working together as a group and provide opportunities for the older boys to help the younger ones. Families meet several times a year, making lunches for a homeless shelter, cleaning our surrounding neighborhood, or sharing random acts of kindness to people in our community. Other times we may play board games or Capture the Flag. Our activities give us a chance to work, play, and learn together.

Our students enjoy a nurturing and supportive atmosphere through our After School Programs, which give them a safe and enriching place to be after school. In addition to after school care and enrichment classes, we have an interscholastic athletics program for Lower and Upper School students, available to any boy who would like to play on a Town team.

The importance of community service learning at Town is woven throughout the curriculum, with the highlight each spring being our Week of Service, in which all members of our school - students, faculty and staff - participate in service activities around the Bay Area. 

The school employs a full-time counselor and a full-time Lower School Social Emotional Learning teacher, who provide support to teachers, parents and individual boys during their tenure at Town.
